SOFT TYPE BACKER ROD INSULATION SIZES 1 1/2" (38 mm) to 4" (101 mm) are furnished in easy to handle 6 ft. (1.83 m) lengths. Rectangular cartons are ideal for warehousing and handling. All have convenient hand holes for carrying ease, All cartons will be accepted for re-shipment by UPS and most other package express services. Truckload quantities furnished on pallets and may be warehoused by two pallets high to maximize space.

Basic Use: SOFT TYPE BACKER ROD INSULATION is a soft, pliable. nongassing backup material inserted into an expansion or contraction joint to control sealant depth, create a backstop to allow proper sealant tooling, to ensure sealant adhesion to joint surfaces only and to yield a proper bond break between backup material and sealant. It can also be used as a temporary joint seal.

Specific Uses: Particularly suited for specialty applications where standard backer rods are not appropriate. Ideal in irregular joint applications particularly where self-levelling, flowable sealants are employed. Also recommended with sealants where bubbling concerns are critical. May also be used in place of most standard backer rod applications. Illustration.

Compatibility: SOFT TYPE BACKER ROD INSULATION is virtually an inert composition and therefore compatible with all known cold applied sealants including butyl. polysulfide, acrylic, polyurethane and silicone.

Composition and Material: SOFT TYPE BACKER ROD INSULATION is an extruded round, dust free, polyethylene based foam material with a skin-like outer texture. It is highly flexible, pliable and compressible for easy installation. Available in distinctive dark grey for easy color identification and several other colors on a custom production basis. Available in a wide variety of diameters. (See Table I above).

Insulation Requirement: SOFT TYPE BACKER ROD INSULATION serves the important and necessary task of insulating the underside of sealants from the negative effects of hot and cold temperature variations as well as moisture and humidity influences from within the joint cavity .
